Knots and Tape Loops is an installation exploring the relationship between sound, perception and memory. Hollier’s process involves using audiotape as a medium for recording and drawing. Here, suspended loops of audiotape are mimicked by hand-dyed, knotted fabric to make drawings in the air. Photographs of leaf shade are draped from the ceiling while field recordings play on loop through tape machines. These forms and sounds are combined to reference idle time in the outdoors, when slowing down heightens sensory awareness.
